I use a Samsung 850 EVO in my desktop (you’ll most likely need a bracket like this if you want to do that yourself). I got one a couple years ago when I first made the switch from a slow, traditional hard drive. It was a beautiful moment of clarity the first time I turned my computer on and it started so fast I couldn’t even access the BIOS in time.
And yes, the Samsung 850 EVO has been around that long, but it’s still at the top of the SSD world because it was so efficient when it was first released. The price has been dropping ever since, but that only increases the value you get out of it. Even with newer models, you’re not going to find a lot of devices that go so much faster they’re worth the extra $100-200 cost.
Most retailers, like Amazon and B&H, are currently selling it around $170. Right now Newegg via eBay has it for $147. That’s even cheaper than Newegg’s main page, but you should expect the quantities to be extremely limited at this deal price.
