June 9 marks the beginning of the PlayStation 4 “9 Days of Play,” a celebration of all things PlayStation that coincides with the start of E3 and, of course, summer. Sony plans to release a whole bunch of deals on hardware and games, but most of those will probably be on the PlayStation itself and many will be available only to PlayStation Plus members. Let’s break down some of these deals:
The big thing they’re releasing to mark this campaign is a Gold PlayStation 4. It’s the slim version and it’ll have a 1TB hard drive. It’ll also sell for $250 for a limited time, which is $50 less than the normal-colored 1TB PS4s. It’s available for pre-order online as we speak, but if you want to get your hands on one immediately tomorrow, just know that pretty much everyone (GameStop, Best Buy, Target, etc) will have at least a few.
Along with the special pricing on the system, all Dualshock 4 wireless controllers will be discounted to $40. That’s not a huge deal since they pretty regularly sell for $44 these days anyway, but it’s still some savings. The kicker is it should apply to every available color, including Gold which doesn’t sell at $44 as often. Remember that some of these places might sell out, so if you’re getting charged more than $40, look somewhere else like Best Buy.
Apparently the PlayStation Gold Wireless Stereo Headset will also be “on sale” for $80, but if you want one of those they’re $72 on Amazon right now anyway.
Last, but not least, are the games. Excluding whatever extra deals on games there will most definitely be, Sony has already announced price drops for several recently released games:
- Nioh, a hard and bloody samurai action game, will be $40 (compared to around $50 right now)
- Horizon Zero Dawn, an RPG with dinosaur robots, will be $40 (compared to about $55)
- MLB: The Show, a game about baseball obviously, will be $40 (compared to $60)
Like I said, a lot of the deals you’ll be able to see on the PlayStation store itself. And some of them will be exclusive to PlayStation Plus members. It’s worth it to go for the PS Plus membership if you don’t have one already because it only costs $10 for one month or $60 for 12 and includes a lot of exclusive deals, including free games every month.
