Get the best DVR for over-the-air programming at a low price, the $308 TiVo Roamio OTA

Update: This deal has expired.

Take a journey with me back in time to a land of dot com bubbles bursting and the Playstation 2. This was the early 2000s and along with these timely wonders came a new device, one that would forever change how we watch television… called TiVo. A brilliant little machine for its time, TiVo let you pause live television. Live television. And SKIP commercials. This was unfounded behavior in the world of television peripherals, and in very short order you just were not cool if you did not have a TiVo filled with hundreds of hours of Gilmore Girls that you swore you didn’t program and yet for some reason refuse to delete.

Well, now it’s 2017 and apparently TiVo is still around and still making some pretty awesome devices. The TiVo Roamio OTA 1TB is down to $308 on Amazon. Except for a one-day drop to $280 back in January, $308 is the lowest this device has ever gone. It’s usually selling around its MSRP of $400.

The original Roamio released in 2014 and was called the “best over-the-air DVR” by CNET. It became the gold standard for DVRs. This version, the Roamio OTA 1TB, is the third generation and greatly improves on the original formula by keeping all the same amazing features but also removing the monthly subscription fee that plagued the first two generations. It’s the best possible DVR for cord cutters, which is the group TiVo designed it for.

If you’re like me, you probably stopped paying for a cable bill years ago. It’s pointless and you can watch all the best stuff online anyway. If that’s the case, then getting the Roamio might be perfect for you. Mix it with an HD Antenna and you could still record a lot of the live TV you’d otherwise miss since you stopped paying attention to TV schedules. Record sports, reality TV shows, or the award shows that you really want to watch but always forget about.
