Here at Thrifter, we're all about saving money, but the fact of the matter is, sometimes it's harder to score deals on in-store purchases. As much as we'd love to constantly have discounts at Starbucks, Taco Bell, Lyft, and our other favorite retailers, it can be difficult to save money when there aren't any coupons readily available, it's 2AM, and you just really need a Cheesy Gordita Crunch.

The Square Cash card is here to change that.

The Square Cash card is a debit card that's free to sign up for. You reload it using the Square Cash App, which is also free and secure. You can download the Cash App for iOS and Android devices. Signing up for the card is seamless and, arguably, fun. Once you're signed up, you can add Boosts to your card to get $1 off at coffee shops, get 10% back on purchases, and even save on groceries.

Simply open your Cash App and tap "Cash Card" to begin the signup process. You can even customize the design of your card with your finger, emojis, and letter stickers. Perhaps you'd like to add a nickname? Or your $Cashtag? ($Louryn FTW!) Once you've got it figured out, punch in your mailing address, confirm your name, enter your birthday, and fill in the last four of your SSN for verification purposes. Your card will arrive in the mail a short while later and you can start using it right away.

The real fun comes in the form of Boosts. Boosts offer things like $1 off coffee shop visits and 10% off Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell, Whole Foods, Domino's, and Chipotle. Drag and drop a Boost onto your card in the app to activate it immediately. Only one Boost can be active at a time, but you can switch between Boosts easily, and new ones appear in the app from time to time as well. There are only a few restrictions. For example, you can't use the same Boost more than once per 30 minutes, and maximum discounts are capped at $7.50. Those limits are small potatoes compared to the money you'll save if you buy coffee once per day or can't turn down a midnight Taco Bell run. You can even run your card as credit to get cash back at select retailers. This is a super-easy way to save on the purchases you make frequently.

If you're wondering about security, the Square Cash app uses two-factor authentication and PCI-DSS Level 1 encryption. Your card is backed by fraud protection, and there are also at-your-fingertips controls such as pausing your card if you misplace it or getting text alerts with every transaction. If you feel safe and secure using things like the Target REDcard or Amazon Reload (which you should), then this should be no issue either. And, to put my money where my mouth is, I just signed up for one. Isn't my card design cute?
